guide to Barbati hotels in CORFU

Up the north west coast out of Kerkyra you must wait for BARBATI for the beaches to improve. This long, narrow kilometre of sand, shingle and pebble is away from the main road and set in a fine bay cloaked in pines. There are sun beds for hire and showers and toilets at the back of the beach as well as small tavernas and beach bars. The east facing bay is very sheltered and the water is shallow for children though it does drop off steeply a little way out. Rocky shores at both ends of the beach provide interest.
The remains of an ancient church also add interest though it is normally closed to the public. Barbati beach would be much quieter if it didn't suffer daily visits by boatloads from Kerkyra and Ipsos. The southern end also offers the usual water sports. The back of the beach is covered with three vast complexes of apartments. Barbati resort village is 10 minutes from the beach up very steep lanes to the main road where there are stunning views over the bay and plenty of shops and restaurants. There are the usual tavernas and bars, mostly geared for families. Nightlife is low key but Corfu town is only 30 minutes away on the bus for those that prefer it more lively.

Barbati is almost two resorts in one. The main road is lined by bars and restaurants mixed in with traditional tavernas and pavement cafes, while the beach enjoys a blissful seclusion, away from the road and busier centre. Couples needing quiet lay in the sun all day. Young families paddle in the shallow, clear seas. This pristine pine-lined bay has won the EU Blue Flag and it's amazing it's not busier than it is. With two boat rental stalls and banana boats or waterskiing, the watersports here are unobtrusive. So you can sit back, let the sun warm your skin and gaze out across the water to Corfu town. It may be small, but Barbati has its fair share of watering holes. For total refreshment, try one of the public swimming pool bars – something for mind, body and soul! Seaside bars like Agathi's are ideal for a cocktail at sunset. After dark Barbati buzzes with laughter and music – the perfect way to wind down as the day cools off
