guide to Glyfada hotels in CORFU

Glyfada is tucked away within western Corfu's dramatic coastline, where craggy cliffs tumble into the azure sea. It has one of the most beautiful beaches in Corfu - long, golden and washed over by a gentle Sea Breeze. Spend some time on the beach at dusk, when the glorious sunsets drown the sands and resort in pink, red and orange. Glyfada is a popular resort for those looking for a quiet, get-away-from-it-all holiday.
Despite its popularity, and tourist development, Glyfada retains some traditional charm. There are plenty of small, homely tavernas serving traditional Greek food and drink. Relax after a hard day of sunbathing with a refreshing glass of Metaxa brandy or Ouzo. If you're looking for wild nightlife and a cosmopolitan atmosphere, Glyfada is probably not the holiday resort for you. If a stunning beach and quiet ambience combined with the convenience of a few shops, tavernas and bars sounds more appealing, you won't be disappointed with this resort.

GLYFADA has a huge 1km beach of pure golden sand that shelves gently into the sea, very attractive and a favourite with families. There are the usual sun beds and watersports. This being one of the longest, sandiest and cleanest beaches on the island and is hugely popular, especially with Italians, and can get very crowded in high season. It is also somewhat overwhelmed by the Louis Grand Hotel which takes up a mammoth portion of the beach. There is a small car park near which soon reaches capacity and finding a place to park can be a pain later in the day. There are are facilities like showers and toilets and all the usual watersports are on offer. On the headland there is a large rock formation that is around 40ft at its highest point and a popular spot for show-off diving displays by the young Italian bucks, bless 'em.
