Messonghi is a modern, quite big tourist resort in front of a long sandy beach, at a distance of 22 kilometers Southern to the town of Corfu. The settlement counts some 300 permanent residents. One of the loveliest features of the area is the scenic small river flowing through the settlement. Small fishing and excursion boats are mooring on its banks, those latter connect the island with Sivota at the opposite coast of Epirus. On the hills around Messonghi there are beautiful traditional villages, maintaining local architectural features, with nice old buildings and the traditional “kantounia”, the narrow stone paved streets. The most picturesque of them are Agios Dimitrios and Chlomos (3 and 4 kilometers, southern to Messonghi, respectively) and Chlomatiana, at a distance of 4 kilometers at the South.

All of them offer a marvelous view, both of the land and of the sea and are ideal for an afternoon coffee. At Chlomatiana you may also visit the church of Panaghia and at Vrangianiotika (3 kilometers southern to Messonghi) you will see the old church of Aghia Paraskevi, dated to the 17th century.
Accommodation is available within the settlement and in the broader area. Food is abundant and good in the taverns of the area, where you may taste the local dishes, as well as fresh fish and sea food, but also typical dishes of Greek cooking. You will enjoy swimming at the beautiful beach in front of the settlement, or you may choose any of the beaches of the area, some of them crowded and cosmopolitan and others more peaceful. Messonghi essentially is a quite fishing village, which offers guest the opportunity to have a relaxed and quite holiday, with the option of a greater choice of nightlife in the neighbouring Moraitika. To this effect the selection of bars in Messonghi is quite limited.
Moraitika on the other hand offers a wide variety of bars, pubs and tavernas. Many of which host a variety of Greek nights, quiz nights, karaoke etc; There are a number of discos that allow for a late night dancing. Low-key entertainment is available at the local bars and tavernas in St. John's. It is also only a short taxi drive to the lively resort of Benitses for a wider selection of after dark activities
